Spring 2023 Application for a thesis/dissertation process

 

1. Qualification of Application

 

1) Students who have acquired all required credits or is scheduled to acquire them this semester(master’s 24 credits, doctoral 36 credits, and combined master’s-doctoral 45 credits or above)

2) Students who passed or will be passing foreign language

3) Students who passed the comprehensive exam

4) Students who have completed all prerequisite courses

5) Students who satisfied criteria defined by department regulations  

 

※ Additional Foreign Language application period for students applying for theses in the 2023-1 semester 

 

◈ 1st additional foreign language application period : 4/26(Wed) ~ 4/28(Fri)

2. Students directly apply for theses

 

◈ 2nd additional foreign language application period : 6/21(Wed) ~ 6/27(Thu) 

1. Students are not allowed to apply for theses in person : Fill out the attached file 'Application for students who have not passed Foreign Language' below and obtain the signature of the advisor, and submit the application by e-mail: grad@sejong.ac.kr

2. Thesis Application from Graduate School : [Academic Information System>School Register Management>Qualifying Examination>Dissertation for Degree Application/Cancellation]

    A. Check your thesis application status after 2 p.m. when emailed the attached in the morning, and after 10 a.m. the following day when emailed in the afternoon in your academic information system

    B. [Application details] Enter thesis title (Korean) and title (English) by yourself and click Save(Request)

    C. [신청및접수(취소)내역] Print Application form

※ Thesis title input and application form printout period : 6/21(Wed) ~ 6/27(Tue), As it is not possible after that, please process it within the deadline

※ Even if you have already passed the thesis review, if you do not apply for foreign language proficiency by June 27(Tue), your thesis will also be rejected.

 

 

2. Thesis/Dissertation Format

4. Schedule and Submission Documents

※ Do not use staplers when submitting documents

5.1(Mon) ~ 5.4(Thu)

 

Submission to the Department

1) Application Form

- Apply and print from [Academic Information System > School Register Management > Qualifying Examination > Dissertation for Degree Application/Cancellation]

- Enter both thesis title (Korean) and title (English)

- Check the name of your advisor

- Click Save(Request)】 and print Application form

※ The 【Application Form】 will be printed only until 5/4(Thu), so please print it out within the deadline.

 

2) Examination Fee

- Master's KRW 150,000 and Doctoral KRW 560,000 (separate from research registration fee)

- How to Pay : Individual text messages are sent to applicants by 5/9(Tue)

  e.g.) Applicants on 5/4 receive a text message(payment account number) on 5/9

  ※ Please check and correct your mobile phone number in advance in the Academic Information System > School Register Management > Academic Calendar and Certificate-related > Personal Information Management by Individual

- Payment confirmation : 5/16 (Tue), Check 접수(apply) → 승인(approval)’ in the [Academic Information System > School Register Management > Qualifying Examination > Dissertation for Degree Application/Cancellation]

- Refund due date and submission documents : ~ 6/2(Fri), Download ① ()사 학위청구논문 심사 연기원서(application for postponement) and ② 환불신청서(refund form) from [정보광장>각종서식>논문], and submit both to graduate school office(Gwanggaeto Building 905)

  ※ However, if the examination is conducted, a refund is not possible even within the deadline

 

3) 학위청구논문 지도교수 추천서(advisor recommendation letter) : Print from [정보광장>각종양식>논문]

 

4) Entire draft thesis/dissertation

- Submit to your advisor and committee for feedback prior to making revisions and scheduling the defense

- In this regard, please consult with your advisor

※ This is not the final printed version and will not be submitted to graduate school office

5.8(Mon) ~ 5.11(Thu)

 

Submission to the Department

1) 논문심사위원 추천서(committee list) : Print from [홈페이지>각종양식>논문]

- An advisor CANNOT be the chair of the committee. An external member of committee CAN also be the chair of the committee.

    

2) 외부심사위원 추천서(external committee) : Print from [홈페이지>각종양식>논문]

- Up to 2 external committee for master's and up to 3 external committee for doctoral can be selected.(if there is no external committee, it is not necessary to submit it.)

     

3) Certificate of Completion of research ethics course

- Please refer to the link below, 'Online Research Ethics Education'. English version available.

Submitting Defense Review Report

 

6.19(Mon) ~ 6.27(Tue)

 

Submission to the Department 

※ Do not use staplers on all submission documents, including Copy Killer reports. Each student must submit the document in a clip or binder clip.

※ Students who fail must submit 1) and 2) documents below.

 

1) 학위청구논문 심사종합판정표(Certification of Thesis/Dissertation Defense)

- Requested this form from your department’s assistant and submit it to the committee chair on the final oral presentation(defense day) 

- After the oral examination, each committee member writes and signs a PASS/NON-PASS, and students submit this handwritten document to the department.

  ※ The department assistant does not first enter and print PASS/NON-PASS.

 

※ How to change the title of thesis/dissertation : The title can be modified by 6/27(Thu), so please check your changed title within the deadline

   ① Manually correct the title in the form of 학위청구논문 심사종합판정표(Certification of Thesis/Dissertation Defense) : Cross out the printed title in two lines, write the changed title, and next to the changed title must be signed by the committee chair

   ② Submit to your department along with the following form of 2),3), and 4)

   ③ Department : The assistant must check the sign of the committee chair and change the title from the department's academic information system

   ④ Student : Check if the changed title is correct in the [Academic Information System>School Register Management > Qualifying Examination > Dissertation for Degree Application/Cancellation]

 

2) 논문심사결과보고서(thesis review report) : Print from [정보광장>각종서식>논문]

- Master’s : Submit 심사종합 보고서(comprehensive report)

- Doctoral : Submit 심사요지 보고서(summary report) and 심사일지 3(the record that was reviewed three times)

 

3) Pledge of compliance of research ethics for a thesis(학위청구논문 연구윤리 준수 서약서), Confirmation of result of plagiarism check for a thesis(학위논문 유사도 확인서) : Print from [정보광장>각종서식>논문]

- If the plagiarism rate of the thesis is 20% or higher, the opinion of committee chair is essential

- Even if the plagiarism rate of the thesis is less than 20%, write the plagiarism rate and submit it

 

4) 표절방지시스템 검사 결과보고서(Anti-Plagiarism System Inspection Results Report)

- Click Sejong University E-Library Database :

 https://library.sejong.ac.kr/en/search/Search.ax?sid=7

  ▶ Login and inspect your thesis according to No.16 'Plagiarism inspection service Copy Killer campus Manual' 

- Check conditions as follows ;

  ① Scope of comparison : current attached document and database of Copykiller

  ② Settings for checks : Sentences indicating quotation/source excluded and subject/table of contents/bibliography excluded

  ③ Standard for plagiarism : over 6 phrases or 1 sentence identical

- Print summary view, and sign your name in the check box

- Unable to submit the result report of copy killer light, which is an Internet plagiarism inspection service

 

※ ① The copy killer inspection, ② Online submission, ③ Printed submission thesis must be the same.

※ According to graduate school regulations, it is not possible to revise or supplement the thesis after submitting the review result report. Therefore, when revising the thesis after submitting the above report, you must submit the above 3) and 4) documents to the graduate school office again.

Congratulations!

You must complete the following steps to successfully submit your thesis/dissertation and graduate. More thorough instructions can be found in the Thesis and Dissertation Manual.

 

1) Submit Online

- Click and submit : https://library.sejong.ac.kr/en/guide/Static.ax?page=Thesis

     

2) Author Permission Agreement

- Printable after receiving [Approval] notification message from ‘My Notice’ of the dCollection of E-Library

※ Unable to print immediately after online submission. Therefore, it is recommended to do 1) one day before submitting the printed thesis in advance.

- Patent-related non-disclosure request : Contact the Sejong University Library and request a non-disclosure application

- Contact Information : Library office 02-3408-1827

     

3) Confirmation Sheet

- Print from [Academic Information System > School Register Management > Qualifying Examination > Dissertation for Degree Application/Cancellation]

※ It is NOT a ‘학위논문제출확인서(Confirmation of Submission) printed with the above 2)

- Check your thesis/dissertation title and sign your name in the check box

- Printable from 6.29(Thu)

 

4) Submitting Your Printed Thesis/Dissertation

Turn in three copies of your completed Thesis/dissertation to the Graduate School office

- One copy must contain the signed ‘Approval Page’ with original signature. In principle the signature is a stamp if it is written in Korean and the signature is an autograph if it is written in English

- Include ‘Abstract’ both in Korean and in English

 

5) Questionnaire for Ph.D. Graduates (uploaded soon)

- Students in doctoral only. Complete the attached 'Questionnaire for Ph.D. Graduates' in English

- Submit '[DPAG] participation agreement' on the last page of the Questionnaire ONLY if you agree
